This course is recommended for all those considering taking on a mentoring role or developing their existing skills, as well as those involved in establishing or developing an existing scheme. It will help clarify the larger purpose of mentoring and also give you the relevant tools and techniques to be able to make the most of mentoring schemes. The course is suitable for people who do not wish to attend a classroom session but prefer to study from home.

What will I learn?
The qualification comprises the following 3 units: Unit 1 - The role of the mentor - The unit provides you with an introduction to the role of mentoring in the workplace or in a learning environment and the different forms of mentorng support. It looks at key roles, responsibilities and role boundaries of the mentor and how the mentor and mentee benefit from the process. Unit 2 - Developing mentoring skills This unit develops your skills in order to undertake the role of a mentor. It investigates how to determine the appropriate structure for the mentoring relationship and how to form an effective relationship with the mentee. It investigates how mentoring can benefit the setting and the processes through which the mentee's learning can be integrated back to that setting. Unit 3 - Demonstrating skills in mentoring and support. This unit further develops your skills to match the mentoring structure to the requirments of the setting.

How will I be assessed?
Assessments will be in the form of learner assignments. All three units will be marked by your tutor who will provide written feedback. Where submissions do not meet the standards required, a re-submission will be requested.

What can I do after the course?
Progression onto Level 3 Advice and Guidance NVQ.
