NEBOSH Construction NCC1 & 2
This course leads to Unit NCC1 of the NEBOSH National Certificate in Construction Health and Safety, entitled "Managing and controlling hazards in construction activities". The NEBOSH National Certificate in Construction Health and Safety is established as a leading health and safety award for the construction industry, with over 4,000 successful candidates since 1989. The qualification is aimed at supervisors, managers and CDM co-ordinators within the construction industry who are required to ensure that activities under their control are undertaken safely. It is likely to prove useful for those concerned with the management of buildings who may need to ensure that contractors are working safely. It is also appropriate for supervisors and managers working in other industries such as utilities, and even broadcasting, where temporary workplaces are a feature of their activities. The qualification meets the academic requirements for Technician Membership (Tech IOSH) of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) and Associate membership (AIIRSM) of the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management (IIRSM). It is accredited at Level 3 within the National Qualification Framework (NQF) by the Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulator (Ofqual) in England. Students successfully completing the full qualification will be awarded a certificate with the accredited title of the qualification: NEBOSH Level 3 Certificate in Construction Health and Safety. Additional fees (Not payable to West Kent College): 90 exam fee payable to NEBOSH.

Course Content:
The qualification covers a broad range of construction hazards and the means by which they can be controlled. It includes the main legal requirements relating to construction work and enables students to undertake effective safety inspections on a construction site. The qualification has been unitised and the content revised in line with the new Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007. It is divided into three units, each of which is assessed separately:

    Entry Requirements:

    Assessment:
    Unit NCC1 is a taught unit assessed by a two-hour written examination consisting of ten short-answer questions and one long-answer question. All questions are compulsory. Candidate scripts are marked by external examiners appointed by NEBOSH.

    Progression Routes:
    To achieve the full qualification, students will be required to progress to, and successfully complete, Unit NCC2 (Construction health and safety practical application) Students successfully completing the full qualification may wish to progress to the NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety offered by the College. This qualification is designed to provide the knowledge and understanding that underpins competent performance as an occupational health and safety practitioner (OHASP) and is accredited at Level 6 of the National Qualification Framework (NQF).
