Content
The National General Certificate is the most widely held health and safety qualification in the UK with over 100,000 people having gained the award since it was launched in 1989.
The qualification is divided into three units, each of which is assessed separately:
Management of Health and Safety (NGC1)
Controlling workplace hazards (NGC2)
Health and safety practical application (NGC3)
The NEBOSH National General Certificate meets the academic requirements for Technician membership (TechIOSH) of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) and Associate membership (AIIRSM) of the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management (IIRSM).
The NEBOSH National General Certificate is accredited at Level 3 within the National Qualification Framework (NQF) by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) in England, the Department for Children, Education, Lifelong Learning and Skills (DCELLS) in Wales and the Council for Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment (CCEA) in Northern Ireland. The logos of these organisations will appear on the certificates awarded for the qualification.

Assessment and Progression:
Units NGC1 and NGC2 are taught units each assessed by a two-hour written examination. Each written examination consists of ten 'short-answer' questions and one 'long-answer' question. All questions are compulsory. Candidate scripts are marked by external examiners appointed by NEBOSH.
Unit NGC3 is assessed by a two-hour practical examination. This is held on a date set by the course provider and must be taken within 14 days of a written examination. The practical examination is internally assessed by the programme organiser and externally moderated by NEBOSH.
Candidates will be awarded a unit certificate for each unit passed. Once a candidate has successfully completes all three units (NGC1, NGC2 and NGC3), the overall qualification parchment will be issued
