What does the course involve?
The course involves completing 8 units relating to various areas of Playwork. There are 6 core units, which all learners must complete, and 2 additional units. The core titles are: 'Deal with accidents and emergencies' 'Support the protection of children from abuse' 'Contribute to positive relationships in the play setting' 'Contribute to the health and safety of the play environment' 'Contribute to the work of your team'
What is the qualification and how is it gained?
The qualification is a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ). To gain this qualification, learners will require an assessment by a qualified assessor, and will be asked to produce a portfolio of evidence showing that they meet the required standard. Learners must be able to demonstrate their knowledge in practice. Attendance at college is on a part-time basis, and learners are expected to attend 80% of the programme.
How will the course be taught?
Learning is achieved through a variety of methods, including attending workshops, sharing experiences, views and ideas with other learners.
What skills will be taught?
Learners will be shown how to put together a portfolio of evidence to meet the requirements needed to gain their NVQ qualification in Playwork.
What progression routes are available?
NVQ 3, providing your job role is of a higher standard of responsibility to meet awarding body criteria.
What should students bring to the first class?
A note pad and pen

How many weeks will the course run for?
Can students join at any time?
No. Courses start in September and February. An application form must be completed by the applicant and then processed by the Course Manager before enrolment.
This qualification is designed to meet OFSTED requirements for out of school provisions, such as Breakfast clubs, after school clubs and holiday clubs. With the new government initiative for schools to offer wrap around care, a new growth in this area is expected; this course is ideal for people who work with children in out-of-school settings, either as a volunteer or employee e.g. Assistant Playworkers/Carers, Lunchtime Supervisory Assistants.
