Course Overview This course is designed for those in a teaching assistant role who are looking to gain knowledge, skills and accreditation in this area. The candidate needs the support of the school to obtain policy and procedure documents, research specific topics and a member of staff to sign candidate reports as authentic.

Qualification gained: City and Guilds NVQ2 in supporting teaching and learning in schools.

Course Content: There are 5 mandatory units; Provide support for learning activities. Support children's development. Help to keep children safe. Contribute to positive relationships. Provide effective support for your colleagues. There are 2 optional units Examples of units include; Support numeracy and literacy activities. Support the use of ICT. Observe and report on pupil performance. Support children's play and learning. Support a child with disabilities or S.E.N.

Work Experience: Candidates must be working as a teaching assistant and be undertaking a variety of roles to be able to generate the evidence needed for the seven units.

Course Assessment: This is a non exam course.Students are provided with questions to help them cover the written course work element. Assessment is also carried out by 3 hours of observation in the work place and oral questions.

Progression: NVQ 3 in supporting teaching and learning in schools.

Homework: Approx 120 hours of work outside of class will be required
