This course is for you if:
Full-time for classroom assistants
This course would be suitable for people who are not yet working in schools and who need literacy/ESOL and numeracy support in order to complete the portfolio and prepare them to support children in the classroom. 16-18 year olds would be accepted onto this course.
Part-time for teaching assistants
This course would be suitable for people who are currently employed as classroom/teaching assistants but who do not have a Level 2 qualification. This course is not available for 16-18 year olds.

Course Start Date (s): Sep
Fee Information: The College charges a range of fees, primarily Home and Overseas. Under 19s assessed as Home, do not pay the course fees, we only charge a 20 enrolment fee which is refunded if you complete the course. Home students over 19 undertaking their First Full Level 2 (equivalent to 5 GCSE A-C) or their First Full Level 3 (equivalent to BTEC National or 2 ALevels) will be charged 20 enrolment fee plus any examination fees. For Home students over 19 receiving certain state benefits, the 20 enrolment is charged and not refundable. In all other instances, you will be charged the Home-EU or Overseas Fee.
Entry Requirements
Full-time for candidates who are not yet employed:
Applicants will be tested and interviewed and must be able to demonstrate speaking and listening skills. reading and writing skills at Level 1 and numeracy at Entry 3. Candidates much find a teaching placement in a primary school or secondary school for 2 days per week while attending their college course.
Part-time for teaching assistants who are in employment:
Applicants will be tested and interviewed and must be able to demonstrate speaking and listening skills at Level 2, reading and writing skills at Level 1 and numeracy at Level 1.To be accepted on the course applicants must be able to give details of a primary or secondary work placement for at least 2 days per week within reasonable travelling distance from the college.
Assessment:
You will build a portfolio of evidence, comprised of observed practice in your placement, witness statements, a diary and assignments.
After the course:
You can progress to a higher level and/or seek employment as a classroom/teaching assistant.
