  • To provide low tech tips for checking childrens online activities and an explanation of popular parental control strategies

  • Internet awareness
  • Protecting children online


Course Content:
Subjects studied within this course include:
  • An overview of the dangers facing children who use the Internet
  • Services children use on the Internet
  • General safety guidelines for parents and children
  • How to set up an operating system (XP or Vista) to block
  • /allow specific sites
  • How to use an operating system firewall (XP or Vista)
  • How to check sites children have visited on the Internet
  • An overview of types and use of additional Internet protection
  • An overview of instant messaging and social networking sites
  • Using family contracts
The course will be delivered in an IT room so that there can be a mix of theory and practical activities.

Students are required to have basic computing skills and be able to browse using a web browser such as Internet Explorer.

There is no interview required.
