Photography NCFE Level 2 Certificate

  • The qualification aims to:

    • Extend and further develop learners knowledge of photography and understanding of photographic processes
    • Provide an opportunity for personal development
    • Provide a basis for progression onto further study

    The objectives of this qualification are to enable learners to:

    • Use photographic equipment, tools, and materials safely and competently
    • Develop analytical and research skills
    • Evaluate own work, develop ideas and learning
    • Provide evidence of key skills attainment where appropriate
    • . The course is aimed at young persons 16+ and adults who have a keen interest in photography and are prepared to learn the subject in a structured manner leading to the Level 2 qualification.

      Course Content:
      The course consists of the following: Unit 1 Select, prepare and use camera equipment.
    • Explore techniques, materials and resources to produce a series of images for the selected area of photography
    • Select a range of the above and give reasons for choices
    • Develop photographic skills to make effective use of materials, techniques and resources
    • Follow health and safety procedures

    Unit 2 Develop and adapt photographic ideas creatively

    • Discuss a range of ideasProduce test shots
    • Adapt ideas
    • . Use feedback and evaluation of own work to develop chosen ideas creatively.
    • Plan and prepare for production of final photographic images

    Unit 3 Produce and evaluate a range of photographic images

    • Produce and present final images for inclusion in photographic portfolio
    • Evaluate final work and the developmental process

    Entry Requirements:
    Formal qualifications are not required, however familiarity and with basic camera settings and controls is needed. If you are unsure, please ask about the Level 1 Photography option.

    Entry Process:
    Applicants are required to complete a part time application form which can be downloaded from the college website. You will be required to have a telephone or personal interview to discuss your photographic experience and determine the best level of course for you to do.

    Assessment:
    Assessment is continuous through the course, based on a range of evidence that you will produce to demonstrate you have achieved the course criteria. Normally this will be in the form of research notes and cuttings; contact sheets of your images; verbal discussions; displays or presentations of ideas and images; annotated images and a presentation of a minimum of 12 final printed images (minimum size 6 x 8 inches / 152 x 203mm)

    Progression Routes:
    Students may wish to progress onto AS Photography or the BTEC National Diploma in Photography.
