About this course

Normally students of 16 -19 years of age will require a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grades A* - C to enter the A level programme. Entry for mature students without formal qualifications is at the discretion of the Faculty.

Course Features

Text books dedicated to our AQA specifications are made available to students.

Students are encouraged to develop an enthusiasm and interest in Physics by wider reading of books, magazines & Internet sites and will have opportunities to give presentations on modern topics.

Examples and problems are often related to the real world we live in.

Lessons are supported with demonstrations, video clips and individual practical work.

Homework is a regular feature of this programme.
Career Prospects and Progression

A Levels provide an excellent basis for progression to courses such as degrees or Higher National qualifications. There is a number of careers directly related to Physics including Teaching, Engineering, Nuclear Medicine, Electronics, Development Engineering and Industrial Research. Careers where the skills developed through Physics might be useful include Forensic Scientist, Geologist, Chemist, Operational Research or Medical Sales Representative. In both lists, only a few of the potential careers are mentioned

AS PH1 - Particles, Quantum Phenomena & Electricity PH2 - Mechanics, Materials & Waves PH3 - Investigative & Practical Skills A2 PH4 - Fields & Further Mechanics PH5 - Nuclear Physics, Thermal Physics & Optional Topic PH6 - Investigative & Practical Skills.

Method of Assessment

Written examinations for PH1, PH2, PH4 and PH5. PH3 & PH6 are practical examinations.
