Course programme
This course is for people of all ages and abilities, from complete beginners to more confident students.
Entry qualificationsNo formal qualifications are required, just an interest in upholstery.
Information about the courseAnyone interested in learning more about upholstery and upholstery techniques.
Course contentTotal beginners should start off with a small item (a drop in seat or a footstool).
More experienced students can work on a project of their own choice (after discussion and advice with the tutor).
The course will be practical, with students taking their own notes to complete portfolios of their work. However, this class is a leisure course, therefore there are no exams.
AdditionalityFor the first lesson, students should bring a notepad and pen and an item to work on. Where possible the tutor will contact new students before the start of the course to disucss project work.
There is a reasonable selection of tools for students use on the course, and if required tools for home use can be purchased from the tutor.
Please note - there is no storage space for project work, so items of furniture must be reasonably portable.
Students will have to pay the cost of materials for their own project, but you will be encouraged to re-use materials wherever possible.
Tools and small amounts of materials are available from the tutor at reduced costs and will be charged for as used.
AssessmentNo formal assessment, students decide their own targets with advice from the tutor.
ProgressionAdvice and guidance will be given during the course of further learning and progression opportunities.
