Is it right for me?
Would you like to improve your practical horticultural expertise whilst increasing the breadth and depth of your theoretical knowledge? This course is designed for enthusiastic gardeners of all ages and allows you to gain a qualification which has been nationally recognised for more than 80 years, together with the Practical Certificate in Gardening. The programme of five terms over two years will be a blend of demonstration, theory and practicals to maintain a varied and interesting programme throughout. Tested by examinations and practical assessments.

What qualifications will I need?
Minimum age 16 years. Interest and enthusiasm. Tetanus protection is recommended.
Agreement to sit the final examinations is a requirement at enrolment.

What will I be learning about?
  • Trees, shrubs and ornamental plants
  • Crop protection and ecology
  • Pools, ponds and alpines
  • Fruit and vegetable growing
  • Glasshouses and propagation
  • Botany and soil science
  • Plant knowledge and identification ' and much more.

Employment in many areas of horticulture or self'employed.

What materials are required?
Warm waterproof clothing for practical lessons. Steel toe'capped boots.

What is next?
  • RHS Advanced Certificate.
  • BTEC Advanced Certificate in Garden Design

How will I be assessed?
Practical task units and short theory tests are achieved throughout the course which culminates in the externally set RHS Certificate.
