Course Overview
For a Part Time Foundation Degree you do not need to apply through UCAS.
The course has been developed by Newcastle College and accredited by Leeds Metropolitan University. On satisfactory completion of the Foundation Degree programme you will be eligible to progress to the BSc (Hons.) in Sports Therapy. This Society of Sports Therapist accredited programme will, through one final completion year, provide an honours degree and eligibility for membership of the Society of Sports Therapists. It is anticipated that the government through the Health Professional Council will soon require all Sports Therapists to hold a degree and the FD in Sports Training and Rehabilitation and the one year BSc completion awards have been specially designed to meet these requirements.

Who The Course is for
Those students who want to progress to higher education but who cannot commit to the full time pathway. Those students who wish to progress to honours degree level, through a vocationally orientated study pathway. For people who work in the sports and fitness industry who wish to develop their knowledge, skills and understanding in the specialist areas of sports rehabilitation (Foundation Degree) & Sports Therapy (BSc).

Entry RequirementsLearning & Assessment Methods
You will learn through a variety of different methods including:
Formal lectures, Oral presentations, Practical sessions, Classroom activity, Seminars, Discussions/debates, Group work, Presentations, Work based learning.
Assessment Methods
You will be assessed through: Written reports, essays, presentations, time constrained assessments, class activities, vocationally based projects, case studies, examinations and practical tasks (such as massage or treatment).
Qualifications Gained
A Foundation Degree, which is a vocational Higher Education qualification. (Validated by Leeds Metropolitan University).
Progression Opportunities
At the end of the course, successful students should be able to demonstrate to prospective employers that they have the personal skills, experience and academic background to meet the needs of the industry. After successful completion of the course you will be offered the opportunity to complete your education to BSc (Hons) level at Newcastle College or alternatively at another institution.

GP referral programmes, exercise and lifestyle consultancy, self-employment, a career in the exercise industry, physiotherapy assistant.
