  • Subject area:Teacher Trainer & Assessor Training
  • Course type:Part time

Course description
This award is the industry standard for anyone teaching adults at any level. It is a mandatory requirement for those seeking Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) status. This course replaces previous City & Guilds qualifications, namely 7407 Certificate in Further Education Teaching and 7302 Certificate and Diploma in Introduction to Delivering Learning. The course is delivered part time over one term.
What will I study?
This is a single Unit qualification which has five elements
1. Understand own role, responsibilities and boundaries of role in relation to teaching.
2. Understand appropriate teaching and learning approaches in the specialist area.
3. Demonstrate session planning skills.
4. Understand how to deliver inclusive sessions which motivate learners.
5. Understand the use of different assessment methods and the need for record keeping.
How will I be assessed?
There are two assessments designed to test your theoretical skills and practical skills. Included in these assessments are the requirements to maintain a reflective learning journal and a minimum 30 minute micro-teach.
You will be expected to make, and keep, deadlines for the completion of the award.
What if I already have a teaching qualification? Will I be exempted?
If you already hold a teaching qualification it is possible that you will not be required to pass the PTLLS course before moving on to the Certificate or Diploma levels. Please contact the course leader for further details.
How much additional work will be required?
This varies. You should expect to study, in addition to weekly contact time, at least the same amount in your own time. There are no set texts to read, but a wide range of materials, including internet studies, are expected to be researched and referenced.

Final award
