About this course
Normally students 16-19 years of age will require a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grades A* - C including a minimum of grade C in Welsh First Language. Entry for mature students without formal qualifications is at the discretion of the faculty.

Course Content
The course focuses on developing Welsh language skills in order to use the language accurately and with imagination. There is also an emphasis on Welsh literature, which forms a basis for both oral and written work.
Course Features
Both in terms of speech and writing, students will learn to communicate effectively, accurately, fluently and concisely in a wide range of situations and contexts.
Students will be encouraged to write creatively and factually for a variety of purposes.
Students will read and analyse familiar and unfamiliar texts independently and confidently.
Students will be expected to listen and respond to the opinions of others. They will learn to defend or adapt their own viewpoint in the light of discussions with others.
Students will be encouraged to reflect on their own responses to texts, based on a knowledge and understanding of a range of literary and factual texts.
Career Prospects and Progression
A Levels provide an excellent basis for progression of Higher level qualifications such as degrees or Higher National Diplomas. Welsh speakers are increasingly needed in the retail sector, tourism, transport, public relations, banking and accountancy, administration, translation, secretarial work, marketing and sales, the law and teaching. Being bilingual gives a person an additional valuable skill when job seeking.

The AS Level comprises 3 units: Unit 1- Film, Drama and Oracy, Unit 2 - Written Coursework, Unit 3 - Grammar and Poetry The A2 Level comprises 3 units: Unit 1 - The Novel and oracy, Unit 2 - Chwedlau, Hengerdd, Cywyddau Unit 3 - Use of Language, Poetry and Prose

AS Level: An oral exam, course work and a written exam. A level: An oral exam and two written exams.
