Wood Occupations Level 2 NVQ
This course is designed for those working in the Construction Industry who wish to develop a wide range of practical skills in all aspects of Carpentry. The course consists of a Technical Certificate studied one day a week in college, an NVQ level 2 assessed in the workplace and Key Skills at level 1

Course Content:
Level 2 in Wood Occupations Carpentry Core Units:
  • Conform to general workplace safety
  • Conform to efficient work practices
  • Move and handle resources


  • Optional Units:
    (choose any THREE of these)
    • Install first fixing components
    • Install second fixing components
    • Erect structural carcassing components
    • Maintain non-structural carpentry work
    • Maintain non-structural carpentry work
    • Set up and use circular saws


    Key Skills:
    • Application of Number Level 1
    • Communication Level 1
    Intermediate Construction Award Level 2 Units:
    • Store materials and equipment
    • Erect and dismantle basic working platforms
    • Work efficiently
    • First fixing before plasterwork
    • Second fixing after plasterwork
    • Carcassing for floors and roofs
    • Use portable power tools


    Key Skills:
    Students who have achieved Grade C or above in English and Maths in the last five years or equivalent will be exempt from Key Skills. Students who have achieved grades D G in the last three years will need to complete a Key Skills Portfolio.

    Work Experience / Practical Experience:
    Students must be employed in a relevant sector.

    Entry Requirements:
    Applicants must be employed within a relevant sector.

    Entry Process:
    Although there are no formal entry requirements, students and employers will be interviewed to ensure suitability.

    Assessment:
    Assessment will consist of: portfolio building, college assessment and workplace assessment.

    Progression Routes:
    Students may wish to progress onto an Advanced Apprenticeship.
