Course Content

Computer Maintenance, Service and Repair work involves installing, maintaining and repairing computer systems and offering technical support. This includes finding and correcting
software and hardware problems for computer users. Working in this profession requires good communication and customer service skills as well as IT skills. A willingness to keep up to date with IT development is also very important. The following are examples of some the duties that may be included in Computer Maintenance, Service and Repair jobs:

  • Upgrading existing hardware and software
  • Visiting home users to set up their PC or fix faulty equipment
  • Testing systems to make sure they are working properly
  • Working out and evaluating the cause of the fault, recording them and explaining these to the user
  • Installing and refurbishing equipment
  • Carrying out scheduled maintenance checks
  • Servicing printers, scanners and other office equipment
  • Installing and setting up new equipment and upgrading
    existing systems
  • Installing operating systems

In general the training involves:

The modules are: Maintain Equipment and Systems, Install and Configure Equipment, Operating Systems and Software, Systems Testing, Customer Support and Networking. The main training is computer based with some practical elements.

Level of training and qualifications offered:

  • 7266-26 Level 2 Diploma in ICT Systems Support (Examining Body for this is City and Guilds)

Further training programmes include:

  • Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) (Examining Body for this is City and Guilds)
  • Customer Relation – In-house Certificate

Our Person Centred approach:
Once funding has been agreed, you will be invited in for an assessment with a dedicated Case Manager who will discuss with you your skills, aspirations and abilities and from this confirm whether you are ready to start training for work with St Loye's. The Case Manager will then build an Individual Employment Plan
(IEP) in agreement with you. This will include personally tailored skills training, development, support and employment programmes.
