Performance Studies, AS-level
About the Course
At AS Level you have three main sections to do. You get the chance to try acting, dancing and singing in very short performances of each, whilst learning the basics about how to improve your performances. You are assessed on a written report of what you have learned. Next is an exciting performance out in the community, where you get the chance to produce a performance with all three elements of drama, dance and music. Previous performances have been held at Beaulieu, the Maritime Museum, and a ghost walk around Southampton†s walls! Assessment is based on your performance and a written report. Finally at AS, you will study two practitioners from the dance, drama and music world, and will be assessed through an exam.
At A2 Level there are three main parts to cover. You will study nine extracts, three each from drama, dance and music, from a diverse choice of performance areas including post-modernism, politics, American musicals or performances from the far east. Assessment is by exam. You will perform something from one of the units you have studied, and then produce a devised piece from a choice of subjects. These practical works will be assessed by a visiting examiner. All of your practical work will take place in our fabulous Hanger Farm Arts Theatre.
