Course description Preparing you with the skills and qualifications you'll need for higher level dance courses, and eventually a career in the industry, this introductory BTEC qualification is the ideal place to begin for anyone who wants to develop their abilities as a professional dancer. You'll learn a variety of practical dance and performance skills, exploring everything from Jazz Dance to Urban Styles. You'll focus on both individual showcase pieces, and what's required when you're working as part of a professional dance company. With choreographed material and the chance to create your own pieces, you'll develop planning, preparation and performance skills that will be relevant to a future career. You'll also discover what it takes to work in the industry, exploring job roles both on and off stage.

Entry requirements You'll need to be comfortable and confident performing to the public, with the ability to use your voice and body effectively, and work in a positive, cheerful environment with others. In terms of formal qualifications, you should just have at least two GCSEs at grade C/D or above, and a positive Record of Achievement. We'll then invite you down to audition for us, alongside an informal interview, to check you're suitable for this course. Equipment required No equipment required 5. Assessment method There will be a variety of tasks and assignments for this course, mostly practical but some written work will be required too. This could be coursework, essays on research you've done, or a log book charting your progress. Some units, including practical performances, will be assessed externally.
