WHY TAKE BTEC NATIONAL PERFORMING ARTS?
This is a vocational course which focuses on building technique and performance skills through practical classes. It is designed for dedicated and experienced performers who wish to work in a professional environment and gain further experience of the Performing Arts industry. Due to the specialist nature of the course you will be invited to audition prior to enrolment.
In the second year you may have the opportunity, depending on demand, to specialise your Performing Arts programme by taking the BTEC National Diploma in Performing Arts, adding the equivalent of another A level to your qualification. This is recommended for students who are serious about pursuing a career in the Performing Arts industry.
WHAT ARE THE KEY AREAS OF STUDY?
You will study all three disciplines of Performing Arts; Acting, Dance and Singing. Each art form will be explored separately focussing on technique and performance skills. Units include, Principles of Acting, Contemporary Dance, Jazz Dance, Storytelling and Singing Skills for Actors and Dancers. You will finish each year with the opportunity to combine the skills you have learnt in large-scale musical theatre productions.
WHAT SKILLS WILL I NEED AND DEVELOP?
You should have some performance experience in at least one of the disciplines as well as a keen interest in the Performing Arts. You must be hardworking, dedicated and willing to study all three arts forms on the course. The majority of sessions are skills development and rehearsals and we expect complete professionalism in all sessions. Formal theory lessons are rare.
HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
All of your assessments are practical performances that take place every half term with some written assignments to accompany practical work.
PRIESTLEY EXTRA
All Performing Arts students are required to present their work during evening performances for a live audience. You are encouraged to take part in our Performing Arts enrichment companies and you will have the opportunity to attend regular theatre visits, professional workshops and residential trips organised by the area.
