This programme is delivered with the Octagon Theatre in Bolton and has excellent links with other creative industries in the region. The course combines rigorous academic learning with practical and professional development. A key feature of this course is access to the professional environment of the theatre, especially to the Octagon Theatre, and to the working practices of theatre professionals, including the Professor of Theatre at the University of Bolton, David Thacker and other established practitioners working at the theatre. You will attend rehearsals, technical and dress rehearsals and meet regularly with professional staff to discuss the ongoing work of the theatre. The courses offers workshops with a variety of industry professionals including staff from the Octagon Theatre, regional and nationally recognised actors, movement specialists, physical theatre specialists and creative writers. You will devote considerable time to placement activity in order to develop enhanced professional skills. Historically these have included youth and community work, a variety of levels in compulsory and post-compulsory education, theatre management and a range of other related creative industry environments. What you will learn
You will study a range of modules that explore performance practically and theoretically. What you will studyYou will study the theory and practice of performance, engage in rehearsal observations, attend dress-rehearsals and visit plays in production, lead workshop groups and create performances for specific audiences. The programme requires you to complete five core modules:
