NVQ:
Awarding Body: EAL

Performing Engineering Operations Level 2

VRQ:
Awarding Body: EAL

Intermediate Certificate in Engineering and Technology

Key Skills
Awarding body: EAL
Application of Number Level 1
Communication Level 1

Employment Responsibilities and Rights:
ERR is covered in the Induction.

Certification: On completion of the above programme the Learner will receive a nationally recognised Certificate for each of the above disciplines.

Apprenticeship:
Apprenticeships are nationally designed training programmes for those who have already left full time education or are already in employment. They provide a combination of on and off-the-job training whilst being paid.

They are intended to provide an integrated programme of learning leading to the acquisition and application of the skills, knowledge and understanding required by employers.

The completion of an Apprenticeship framework shows both current and potential employers that the holder has achieved competence in the skills covered by the Apprenticeship, has demonstrated the knowledge required by the Apprenticeship and has attained the level of transferable skills required by all Apprenticeships.

NVQ:
National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ's) are qualifications that reflect the skills, knowledge and understanding of individuals ‘specific areas of work' - in this case Performing Engineering Operations. They are expressed in terms of competences and are assessed in the workplace.

This qualification covers the fundamentals common to all engineering practices, including health and safety requirements and communicating engineering information, whilst offering extensive choice and flexibility for learners to demonstrate competence in one or more of a broad variety of
engineering activities. The pathway structure also caters for those providing technical support, including project planning, contributing to business improvement, using CAD and software packages, and carrying out selected engineering applications.

To achieve the NVQ you will complete the three mandatory units and select, with the help of your assessor, either one from Group ‘A' and two from Group ‘B' or three from Group ‘B'.

Mandatory Units
PEO2 / 001 - Working safely in an engineering environment
PEO2 / 002 - Working efficiently and effectively in engineering
PEO2 / 003 - Using and communicating technical information

Optional Units
- Group A

PEO2 / 004 - Producing mechanical engineering drawings using a CAD system
PEO2 / 032 - Producing electrical or electronic engineering drawings using a CAD system
PEO2 / 061 - Producing CAD models (drawings) using a CAD system

- Group B
There are 55 units to choose from in Group B including:
PEO2 / 006 - Producing mechanical assemblies
PEO2 / 034 - Forming and assembling electrical cable enclosure and support systems
PEO2 / 036 - Assembling and testing electronic circuits
PEO2 / 053 - Finishing surfaces by applying treatments

VRQ:
This intermediate certificate is a Vocationally Related Qualification (VRQ) and focuses on performance using practical skills, knowledge and understanding. This ensures that on completion the learner has gained practical experience has some expectation for situations that they could
face in a job role within the engineering sector. This VRQ is a recognised Technical Certificate.

To achieve the EAL VRQ the learner is required to complete the 3 common mandatory units, followed by the required number of units from their choice of pathway (A, B, C, D or E). The assessor will advise on the best route during the induction / initial assessment period.

Mandatory Units
ETI / 001 - Engineering Environment Awareness
ETI / 002 - Engineering Techniques
ETI / 003 - Engineering Principles

Pathway A - Electrical/Electronic
Pathway B - Fabrication and Welding
Pathway C - Maintenance
Pathway D - Mechanical
Pathway E - Multi-Skill

Key Skills:
Mandatory

Communication Level 1
Application of Number Level 1

Optional (not required for the framework but will give additional certificates)
