About this course

Students need to be able to achieve at Entry Level in a practical area of work. Certification will be through the National Proficiency Test Council Certificate in Skills for Working Life. Learners will need to complete skills which are assessed both practically and in the classroom.

The Programme
This course focuses on the development of work related skills primarily in the areas of horticulture, hospitality and catering and retail for post 19 students with severe learning difficulties. Learners need to work in a mature way to complete skills on time.
The Programme Content
The course is practically based and the programme timetable includes: Sandwich Run, Horticulture, Catering through the Acorn Cafe and Coffee Club. Students have the opportunity to take part in the Ten Tors event and an annual residential which is an integral part of the course. We aim to offer learners a full day supported Work Placement in their second year of study. Students will have an individual learning plan to accommodate their specific learning and vocational needs.
Progression / Careers
On completion of the course, learners may progress onto the part time Integrated Work Skills Programme or move into a supported/voluntary work placement.
