Whilst at college, students study on the BTEC National Certificate in Applied Science programme. This qualification is equivalent to 2 A-Levels and is a two-year course. About this course
Four subjects at GCSE grade C or above to include Double Science (or BTEC First Certificate in Science), Mathematics and English Language, or equivalent qualifications at the discretion of Thanet College Science Staff. Candidates will be asked to attend an interview prior to the course commencing.

Course Overview
The Science Traineeship programme is run in conjunction with Pfizer (Sandwich) Ltd where students work 4 days per week at Pfizer and attend college one day per week. Whilst at college, students study on the BTEC National Certificate in Applied Science programme.
This qualification is equivalent to 2 A-Levels and is a two-year course. At Pfizer Ltd you will work in sophisticated laboratories with up to date technology, fully supervised and be paid£95 per week.
Students who wish to complete the course but not work at Pfizer can combine the BTEC NC Applied Science course with an AS/A2 subject to make a full time programme. As well as preparing learners for university - providing a maximum of 240 UCAS points, the BTEC NC in Applied Science is also suitable preparation for employment.
Course Structure
This is a part-time, two-year course for one day per week from 9.00am 5.30pm in the Kingsgate Building.

Qualification Aims
The National Certificate in Applied Science is awarded by Edexcel and is a stepping'stone to Higher Education. In particular, courses in Applied Biology, Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Science would be a natural progression. It is also suitable for those wishing to enter employment as a laboratory technician or to train in specialised laboratories.
Assessments/Examinations
Students are required to obtain credit in a total of twelve units. There are currently no external examinations.
Cost / Equipment
Students over 19 may be required to pay tuition fees. Free tuition is available to those in receipt of certain means tested benefits or to their un-waged dependants.
