Course programme

This course aims to enable you to be a confident and competent classroom practitioner who can enable children to learn effectively across the whole curriculum. Two age phases are available: 3-7 or 5-11 year olds. There are also opportunities to gain academic credits at Master’s level. If you’re a graduate who wants to train as a teacher but are unable to study full-time or complete a school-based route due to work or caring responsibilities, the PGCE Primary part-time course is the perfect way into teaching for you. You can choose to train to teach 3-7 year olds (including nursery settings) or 5-11 year olds. The course mainly attracts mature students who have been away from study for a number of years who are united by a desire to become a primary teacher and to enrich the lives of young learners. Our students are driven by wanting a change in their own lives, whilst keen to make a difference to those they teach. Students on this course are supportive of each other. If you’re looking for a flexible, taught course into teaching – this is the route for you. If you are concerned about juggling the demands of family and work, but you are committed to the level of study and practice that you will need to succeed in teacher education, this could be the course you need. You will benefit from learning with a group of similar individuals.
