The Professional Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) and Professional Diploma in Education (PDE) are courses of teacher training for the Learning and Skills Sector which are run by Salford City College in partnership with the University of Bolton. These are new qualifications which replace the PGCE/Cert Ed and are the first step towards claiming QTLS (Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills).

About this course

Applicants should hold at least a Level 3 qualification (or possibly a degree depending on subject) in their subject area. Candidates wishing to teach vocational subjects will be required to have relevant work experience in the areas in which they are applying to teach.

PGDE

The Professional Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) and Professional Diploma in Education (PDE) are courses of teacher training for the Learning and Skills Sector which are run by Salford City College in partnership with the University of Bolton. These are new qualifications which replace the PGCE/Cert Ed and are the first step towards claiming QTLS (Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills) status. Please note that this course does not lead to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) to teach in schools.

These courses are offered on a full-time and part-time basis at Salford City College, Worsley Centre.

Contents
The course comprises of seven modules; four in Phase 1 and three in Phase 2 of the course. In addition, there is a requirement to undertake a minimum of 150 hours of teaching practice (75 hours for each year of the two year part time course). Current modules include:

Phase 1: Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS)
Introduction to Teaching and Learning
Option Module
Teaching and Learning Theory and Practice

Phase 2: Curriculum Development and Professional Contexts
Option Module
Continuing Personal and Professional Development

Tuition fees are payable to the University of Bolton. Tax free training bursaries may be available in some circumstances and financial support may be obtained via Student Finance England. Please refer to University of Bolton website for further details.

Enrolment Method
If you are interested in applying for a place to study at Salford City College then you will need to apply directly to the College and NOT to the University of Bolton.

All students must be interviewed by the course tutor before receiving any offer of a place on the course. Once enrolled at Salford City College, students will also need to complete enrolment documentation for the University of Bolton.

Information sessions/interviews are usually held in May, June and July each year.
