Course summary
This innovative course, aims to develop you as either a new or existing manager, working in the fast changing NHS, private healthcare or social care sector. You may be working in a clinical, professional, technical or administrative capacity.

Crucially, the course will equip you with the enhanced skills and knowledge needed to manage people, resources and systems, in complex health and social care environments effectively.

The learning approach combines a variety of teaching methods, including face-to-face study days, self-directed learning and work focussed and work located projects. Online resources hosted via the UWL Blackboard site, will provide guidance on pre and post study day preparation, reading and assignment guidance. This blended approach will enable you to develop/enhance:
- your strategic decision making capability
- an original and critical approach to operational management
- an understanding of the policy context
- change management/organisation development skills.
The ability to take responsibility for the management of your own learning is increasingly sought within organisations. This course will help you to agree and plan your learning, within your work environment, to meet needs identified by your organisation.

Entry requirements
You will need to:
1). Be working in a relevant health/social care environment, with management responsibility, in order that the learning outcomes of the course can be achieved.
Applicants will be asked to verify on application that they have sufficient work experience (normally working at NHS Band 6 or above) and have access to the appropriate health/social care practice. The workplace manager may also be asked to verify this where relevant.

This course will enable you to:
- develop your capacity in advanced management knowledge and skills
- critically evaluate the evidence base underpinning management in health and social care
- develop in-depth knowledge of the strategic, political and complex nature of the sector
- critically reflect on your own development as a manager.
