What will I study?
The subject concerns the study of ideas, and is designed to develop critical and intellectual skills as well as knowledge and understanding of major philosophical issues. Modules offered at AS Level will be: Reason And Experience, Why Should I Be Governed?, Knowledge Of The External World and The Value of Art. At A2 Level the following modules will be offered: Moral Philosophy, Political Philosophy, and John Stuart Mills On Liberty as a Set Text.

Duration:
One year for AS Level and a further year to complete A Level.

Do I need any additional qualifications/ skills?
There is a weekly philosophy society which develops students interests beyond the A Level specification.

How will I be assessed?
By written examination at AS and A2.

What can I do afterwards?
Philosophy is extremely popular with universities as background for any course as it demonstrates the capacity for original and rigorous thought and the critical analysis of difficult texts, which are the basis of intellectual development and important strengths in a wide variety of careers.

Are there any additional costs involved?
Set Texts and recommended text books. Trips to Philosophy conferences.
