This study day will provide the underpinning knowledge for venepuncture and related issues.

A practical session will help to put the theory into practice.

Learning Outcomes

The student will gain an understanding of:

  • The anatomy and physiology of blood vessels
  • The issues relating to venepuncture
  • Issues relating to infection control and health and safety
  • Accountability

Assessment

Attendees will return to their own place of work to gain the competence required for safe practice. This will include the completion of a phlebotomy clinical activity sheet signed off by their mentor. Upon completion and return of this sheet a certificate of competence will be issued by the Primary Care Training Centre.
