The Programme
Work in Photography must form a means of personal enquiry and expression in which the selection and manipulation of images produce different meanings. On the course, emphasis is placed on a creative approach which goes beyond mere observation and recording and students will develop practical photographic skills.
The Programme Content
Unit 1- Coursework
You will gain many new skills in the area of photography, theses will in included, 35mm SLR camera operation, black and white film processing, black and white darkroom printing, digital SLR, digital manipulation, image composition and an introduction to the more critical analysis of images. You will also explore the expressive potential of photography. This will involve researching and analysing the work of other artists to inform and develop your ideas. You will be given themes from which you will develop your own work toward well considered conclusions.
Unit 2- Externally set assignment
The exam board set a theme for this unit. You are given several weeks to research, develop ideas and provide preparatory work. There is then an 8 hour exam for final outcomes.
Progression / Careers
Many students go on to study Photography or other Art & Design-based subjects at a higher level. There are numerous Degree and Diploma courses available, from pure Photography to combined courses with Graphic Design, Media and Art.
