Photography A Level LocationCranford Avenue Course Overview Apply Now The School of Digital and Creative Industries at Weymouth College has purpose-built facilities including a large fully equipped darkroom, photography studio, and a large suite of the latest Apple Macintosh computers. Gallery trips to London and workshops with professional photographers are an integral part of the Course. As part of your programme you may be given the opportunity to work on joint initiatives with dance, drama, music or hairdressing students as well as being involved with community projects; many of our students have had wedding commissions.

Course programme

At least 5 GCSEs A – C including Maths and English, unless otherwise stated at interview for specific subjects requirements. You must provide a portfolio of your own artwork and successfully complete a summer holiday project, which will be given out before you start the course. Course Content The work is mostly practical, with some written work required. The course is designed to provide a coherent exploration of camera usage and techniques, darkroom and studio practice, film processing and printing, finishing and presentation of images. You will also be able to explore some aspects of digital photography and image manipulation using both Macs and PCs. Progression Students can progress to Higher Education courses in Art & Design or in other subject areas. Students wishing to progress to a BA (Hons) Photography or Art & Design course may wish to take the 1-year post A level Foundation Diploma in either Art & Design or Lens Based Media prior to degree level study. Some students may consider progression to HND Photography. Students who completed this course have gained places on courses such as BA (Hons) Marine and Natural History Photography at University College, Falmouth, BA (Hons) Photography: Editorial & Advertising and BA (Hons) English with Journalism at institutions such as Brunel University, UWE and University of Gloucestershire. Fees • If you are aged 16-18 as of 31 August on the year of enrolment – no course fee. • If you are over 19 as of 31 August and enrolling on a full-time programme of study a tuition fee will be applicable in most cases.
