About this course
The course will enable you to progress onto the Extended Diploma and subsequently to HNC or degree courses or to enter the industry at assistant or junior level. You will have the skills and experience to be confident in the use of most photographic and digital processes, and will have a portfolio of photographic work that will support your application to any area that suits your talents and preference. You will be guided through the preparation of your portfolio and given advice on careers and opportunities for progression.

Entry is by interview and portfolio inspection. You will be required to have gained at least 4 GCSEs (C grade or above) normally including English and at least one Art / Design subject. In exceptional circumstances, particularly for mature students, a relaxation of formal qualifications may be possible.

Course programme
Course Assessment Method
There is a range of assessment methods on the course. The majority of assessments are via practical assignments which are supported by research and technical workbooks. Other forms of assessments are via formal essays, formal presentations, classroom activities and group critiques.
Note: There are no written examinations on this course.
The course has 90 credits in total, all of which are compulsory. The units are concerned with the following subjects:
- Studio Practice
- Location Practice
- Darkroom Practice
- Computers in Art & Design
- Critical & Contextual Studies.
These subjects are delivered via thematic assignments such as Portraiture, Fashion, Advertising, Documentary, Photojournalism & Landscape.
Note: Students can progress onto the Extended Diploma after one year, subject to completing the coursework satisfactorily.
