However most students use their A Level Photography work as a way of entering art schools and design-related courses at Higher Education. Some students do progress directly to employment in a variety of areas.

This course combines well with either A Level Art Courses or BTEC National Diploma Art & Design.
Extra Curricular Activities
All students can add to their main programme of study by taking part in a wide range of clubs, groups, societies and courses. Not only are the activities fun, they also develop skills and provide new and fulfilling experiences, as well as enhancing applications to Higher Education and employment.
What is the course about?
This is a one to two year course that will provide you with a good knowledge of black and white, colour and digital photography. You will be encouraged to experiment with photographic techniques, materials and processes. You will be introduced to digital photography and creative software. There will be opportunities to develop your visual skills and awareness of your environment. You will explore areas of photography such as portraiture, documentary, photojournalism, environmental photography, still life and experimental imagery.
Historical contemporary contextual studies are important elements of the course and will support your practical work. This will enable you to understand different styles, genres and traditions in Photography.
Units are internally assessed and externally moderated. The externally-set exam is at the end of AS and A2.
Integral parts of the course are visits made in your own time and with staff to galleries and museums in Britain and abroad.

You will develop a strong working knowledge of both digital and black and white photography and related theories.
How will you be assessed?
AS Level: 2 units of work and a 5-hour practical exam (to include 4 weeks preparatory work)
A2 Level: 1 unit of practical work, 1 project thesis and an independent study unit and a 15-hour practical exam (to include 6 weeks preparatory work).
