Course programme

This course will cover the contemporary and traditional aspects of photographic practice, introducing students to both new and old photographic techniques. The course will explore the darkroom, the film camera and primitive imagine making, moving onto introduction to the digital camera, editing programs and contemporary photographic practice.

Throughout the course, the investigation into building a collection of images is required, archiving photographs in a number of ways, including looking at photo book culture and found images. The course will be heavily project and critique lead, with elements of photographic theory and art debate encouraged throughout. There will also be a research element to the course that we ask students to look at throughout the 10 sessions.

This is a good course for students to look at both traditional and modern uses of photography whilst developing a body of images in the context of archive, documentation and the art object. The course offers a large proportion of time to investigation into the process of photographic self discovery and the use of photography in its widest possible context.

Please note: This course is for students aged 18 and older
