About this course
You will need to be aged 19 or over and ideally be an experienced playworker, working with children and young people in a play care setting. All students will be interviewed to assess their suitability for the course.

Introduction:
This course is designed specifically to meet the needs of mature students. It is a golden opportunity for those with considerable working experience in Playwork to gain formal recognition of their expertise.
Study Mode & Location:
This 16 week part-time day course will last for 3 hours per week. It will be held at Preston College, Fulwood Campus, St Vincent`s Road, Preston, PR2 8UR.
Course Content:
You will need to achieve all five of the following mandatory units:
- Contribute to an organisational framework that reflects the needs and protects the rights of young people.
- Develop and maintain a healthy, safe and secure environment for children.
- Develop and promote positive relationships.
- Plan for and support self-directed play.
- Reflect on and develop practice.
Assessment:
To achieve this NVQ Level 3 you will need to demonstrate your competence to meet the national occupational standards. Three hours work based training is arranged each week, which is integral to the learning programme and provides on-going assessment opportunities throughout the course. A portfolio of evidence detailing knowledge and understanding is also an assessment requirement. You may need to spend up to three hours per week of your free time working on your portfolio.
Careers & Progression Opportunities:
Successful completion of this course will provide a professional qualification, together with the opportunity for employment as a supervisor in:
- out-of-school care
- a play centre
- holiday play schemes/projects.
Costs:
This course is subsidised by the Lancashire Education Authority (LEA). Tuition fees will therefore be substantially reduced (to £50) for Lancashire residents/employees.
How To Apply
You will need to have an informal interview with a Adult Admissions Adviser.
Many courses have limited places so please enquire as soon as possible. Following interview, the earliest you may enrol is mid-June.
