CAPM® Certification by PMI Course Overview

The Project Management Institute (PMI)® sets standards in project management and provides project managers with certification recognised around the world.

This course delivers the knowledge needed to sit the CAPM® exam. It covers the knowledge areas and process groups contained in the A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge: PMBOK Guide, 5th Edition (ISBN 978-1935589679), as well as related concepts, tools and techniques.

During this course, you will need a copy of the PMBOK® Guide, which delegates will need to purchase separately.

The training is delivered by highly experienced project management trainers, with participation by the delegates being integral to the learning process. Delegates will explore project management issues via group discussion and practical application of key concepts.

The syllabus covers a wide breadth of topics, from the essential processes required to monitor and control a project through to the wider context in which the project is being managed.

Pre-requisites

  • To apply for the CAPM® exam, the PMI requires that you have either:
  • Secondary diploma (high school diploma / global equivalent) and 1,500 hours of professional experience on a project team.

or

  • A secondary diploma (high school diploma / global equivalent) and 23 contact hours of formal education.
  • You have a basic or limited knowledge of project management, or are working in a project environment.
  • Require an understanding of PMI's approach to project management.
  • Want a recognised project management qualification.

Pre-Course Work

All delegates will be required to do a minimum 5 hours recommended pre course work. This consists of:

Reading and studying the first three chapters of A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge: PMBOK Guide, 5th Edition namely:

Chapter 1 – Introduction
Chapter 2 – Organizational Influences and Project Life Cycle
Chapter 3 – Project Management Processes

Course Goals

  • Provide the 23 contact hours required to apply for the CAPM® exam;
  • Understand projects and their context;
  • Understand the relevant Project Documents for each stage of the project lifecycle;
  • Understand the project management processes;
  • Understand the project management knowledge areas.

Format
This course is an intensive 3 day workshop resulting in a certificate for the 23 Professional Development Units (PDUs) required to apply for the CAPM exam.

Delegates should be advised that they will be required to undertake individual assignments in the form of homework during the course.
