Course programme

This programme will not only give you general insight into policing related topics but also an understanding of politics and structures of power and accountability of policing. Policing, Politics and Governance is one of nine named policing awards that form part of the Policing Suite of programmes. Each programme provides students with a strong and predominant grounding in policing, both conceptually and in applied practice. Each degree will facilitate the provision of the Certificate of Knowledge in Policing (CKP - see below). The Policing Suite provides the opportunity for students to specialise in police/policing-related subjects and enables them to have a more intensive understanding about an area or related aspect of policing that will better match their vocational ambitions. Policing, Politics and Governance will provide a critical insight into all aspects of police governance and its effectiveness in action through direct observations of police governance. The programme will explore the concepts and principles relating to the police role, within ethical contexts, and the limits of police professionalism associated with discretion authority and public trust.
