About this course

To gain a place on the course you should have relevant qualifications in the area in which you wish to teach. This should be at a minimum of Level 3. You should also have Level 2 qualifications in English and Maths or be working towards them.

Course Content
This course is offered in partnership with the University of Wales, Newport.
This is a general teaching qualification for those wishing to teach in the further and adult education sector or for those training people in the workplace. The course is designed to meet the LLUK [Lifelong Learning UK] professional standards.
It is a two year, part time course with attendance of two half day sessions per week during the academic year September to June.
The course is offered on:
Tuesdays 9.00am - 2.00pm Year 1
Wednesdays 2.00pm - 7.00pm Year 1
Wednesdays 2.00pm - 7.00pm Year 2
Thursdays 9.00am - 2.00pm Year 2
Monday and Tuesdays 5.30pm - 8.00pm Year 1
Most of the classes are held in Sketty Hall.
While taking the course, all participants will undertake teaching practice amounting to at least 150 hours over the two years. This will need to be arranged before enrolling on the course.
In the first year the modules are:
  • Preparing to Teach
  • Foundations of Learning
  • Planning and Assessment
  • Professional Practice 1

In the second year the modules are:
  • Curriculum Development for Inclusive Practice
  • Independent Study or Option
  • Professional Practice 2

Assessment
Assessment will be based on written assignments, presentations and actual teaching.
Progression
This qualification is required for those who wish to teach in the PcET sector. It does not qualify people to teach in schools.
Additional information
Fees for 2009/2010 are £1610 per year [you may be eligible for a grant from Student Finance to assist in paying these fees.
