Aims of the Course

The overall aim of the course is to study and evaluate the impact of employment law on the work of senior HR professionals. In effect, the course provides a mechanism for relating employment law to the practical aspects of HR management at a senior level. Understanding and analysis of key areas of contemporary employment law and practice.

What the Course Covers

Coursework is broken down into three modules. Together, the modules cover core employment law topics, specifically the analysis of contemporary legal topics and likely future developments. As PEEL Club members are senior professionals with a sound grasp of the principles and application of employment law, the course is designed to enhance understanding of current and future legal issues.

Module 1 looks at employment relationships, employment status, typical employment and flexible work patterns, employment documentation, key rights and duties in employment contracts, contractual change, performance management, termination and dispute resolution, employee relations and communication and consultation systems.

Module 2 covers opportunity and diversity at work, anti-discrimination law from both the EU and the UK perspective, work-life balance, family-friendly and similar initiatives, equal pay, the emerging equality agenda, occupational benefits, emerging topics and priorities.

Module 3 discusses change management along with development and support at work, outsourcing and agencies, mergers and takeovers, redundancy, training and personal development, and occupational health and safety.
