Over the years, through commercial consultancy work, the College has established an excellent reputation in this field, particularly in relation to cold storage and international transport. Current research is focusing upon disease reduction in stored fruits and vegetables using non-chemical treatments and the pre-harvest treatment of cut flowers to improve postharvest longevity.

Potato, apple, mango, avocado, pineapple and various cut flowers are among the wide range of species studied to date.
