Course programme
Get a taste of the fascinating world of pottery and porcelain restoration. Our 2-day courses will provide an introduction to the main techniques used in restoration. Hopefully you will be able to complete one simple project, but we cannot guarantee this. It is also suitable for people with particular areas of interest, such as collectors of Beswick, etc.
Among the skills covered are:-
- Identifying types of Ceramics and deciding on the appropriate materials and techniques to use
- Cleaning pieces and dismantling old repairs
- Assembling and gluing broken items
- Consolidating hairline cracks
- Repairing chips and other minor damage
- Modelling small missing parts
- Hand-painting and glazing
All tools and materials are provided, but you will need to bring a selection of pieces with a range of faults to repair (we suggest that you do not bring a £2000 Worcester vase as you first item!). Charity shops are an ideal souce of suitable pieces.
We will provide you with comprehensive notes, which include details of suppliers of materials and equipment which you will need to be able to continue once the course is over.
We also provide a light lunch and an endless supply of tea and coffee!
