Course programme

Course Content English and Study Skills

You will develop your English communication skills and learn a range of study skills including: writing and reading strategies; presentation and seminar participation; organisation of time and materials; meeting deadlines; and responding to feedback.

By the end of the programme you will be able to: use English language in your own academic work; give well-structured presentations; confidently answer follow-up questions and contribute to seminar discussions; take notes from readings and lectures; plan, develop and write well-structured academic essays; and be confident in self-directed learning strategies.

You will also study for the IELTS exam covering all four skills (listening, reading, writing and speaking) in order to be fully prepared to take an IELTS exam at the end of your academic year.

Subject-specific units
  • Pure Mathematics 1

Learn about lines and linear equations, set theory and probability, statistics, linear programming, indices and logarithms and experimental laws.

  • Applied Mathematics

During this unit you will study advanced vectors, forces and equilibrium, relative motion, Newton's laws of motion, friction and work, energy and power, centres of gravity/centres of mass and particle dynamics.

Elective units
  • Chemistry

This unit introduces you to formulae, equations and moles, atomic structure, introduction to redox systems, thermodynamics and bonding.

You will also cover equilibria, acid-based equilibria, kinetics and organic chemistry.

OR

  • Physics

In this unit you will look at sound, reflection, refraction, interference, diffraction, electromagnetic waves, strengths of solids, fluids, heat and gases and the structure of the atom.

You will also cover electrical current and charge, potential difference, resistance, capacitance, transistors and amplifiers, electrical fields, gravitational fields, magnetic fields and electromagnetic fields.

AND

  • Pure Mathematics 2

You will cover further algebra, co-ordinate geometry, trigonometry, differentiation, integration, numerical methods and vectors.
