Pre-Service Certificate in Education, Professional Graduate Certificate in Education and Postgraduate Certificate in Education (Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector)

Entry requirements The minimum qualification you need to gain entry to the course is at Level 3 or 4 in the subject(s) that you intend to teach. Normally, the qualification you need to teach your subjects would meet these requirements. Applicants must have GCSE Maths and English at grade C or above (or Level 2 equivalent) before attending for interview. Those wishing to enter the Professional or Postgraduate Certificate in Education routes must hold a UK first degree (or equivalent). All applicants will need a work placement to gain the required 100 hours practical teaching experience; the course team will endeavour to find an appropriate placement for applicants subject to availability, an interview and two appropriate references. Applicants should also aim to complete a minimum of 5 days experience shadowing in an appropriate setting. A clean DBS check is also required. What you will learn Year 1 Principles and Practice in Post Compulsory Education Practical Teaching and Learning Exploring Specialist Teaching Advanced Professional Practice in Context Certificate in Education is studied at levels 4 and 5; Professional Graduate Certificate in Education is studied at levels 5 and 6; Postgraduate Certificate in Education is studied at levels 6 and 7 What Next The course prepares you for life as a teacher in the lifelong learning sector and many of our students have gone on to employment and/or further study. Learning & Teaching Methods The course requires approximately 1200 hours of Teaching and Learning combining workshops, seminars and group work, online support peer observation and 1:1 tutorials, directed reading, collaborating with peers, independent study and reflection, module assignments, tutor observation and feedback, work based practice and mentor support. You will need to have a professional commitment to the course, particularly attendance and will need to manage your time and personal circumstances.
