About this course
You should have a range of GCSE's grades E and F including English Language. A satisfactory report from school is essential as you may be working with young children on placement.A successful interview is required before being offered a place on this course.You will need to obtain a satisfactory Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau Disclosure Certificate before attending placement.

What are the Course Details?
The CACHE Entry Level Certificate in Preparation for Childcare is designed to provide an opportunity for you to learn how to care for a young child in a home environment or how to be a good parent. You will also need to complete other qualifications to achieve this full-time course.
Is the Course for Me?
This course is the first step to working with children and will help you to prepare for the Foundation Award in Caring for Children. You should have an interest in wanting to work with young children and be a good role model in College and on placement. It will also help you to develop personal learning and thinking skills to prepare you for employment in the future.
What will I Learn?
The preparation for childcare course is made up of three units of study which comprise:
Unit 1 Pregnancy and the Responsible Parent
Unit 2 Caring for Young Children 0-3 years 11 months
Unit 3 Play and Learning in the Home 0-3 years 11 months
Progression Qualification Units Include:
Using craft activities with children and young people
Introduction to understanding self and others
Work placement plus 2 others
How will I Learn?
You will attend sessions at College and take part in a range of teaching and learning activities such as group work, practical child care, making resources for children, writing assignments and researching information using books and computers.
How will I be Assessed?
You will complete an assignment at the end of each unit. You must pass each assignment to pass the course. You will have an opportunity to resubmit assignments to improve or gain a higher grade.
What Enrichments are Available?
A range of enrichment opportunities will be offered alongside this course including Creative Craft and Functional Skills. Learners will also have access to various other activities within the College including sporting events and organised trips to develop and broaden their experience of College life.
Are there any Trips or Visits?
Yes - to support enrichment courses.
Is there any Work Experience?
Yes - there will be some block placements in an early years setting during the course.
What can I Progress to?
This course will help you to progress to the Foundation Award in Caring for Children if you achieve Entry 3 in all your assignments and Functional Skills or you may choose to progress to another course within College.

Previous learners who have successfully completed this course have progressed onto higher level courses before finding employment within a childcare setting.
