Course Description
This is an introductory award which is compulsory for all new teachers in the Lifelong Learning Sector who do not currently have a recognised teaching qualification.It is also for anyone else who wishes to gain an initial award in teaching/training. It is accredited through City & Guilds and can be taken at either Level 3 or 4. It is an introduction to teaching which will equip teachers with the necessary skills to approach the theory and practice of teaching;

Entry Requirements
At least 4 GCSEs at Grade C, one of which must be English. Or Level 2 skills/craft qualification (eg NVQ 2 or relevant work experience).

Modules Studied:

• Understand own role, responsibilities and boundaries in relation to teaching
• Understand appropriate teaching and learning approaches in the specialist area
• Demonstrate session planning skills
• Understand how to deliver inclusive sessions which motivate learners
• Understand different assessment methods and the need for record keeping

Attendance Modes: Day/Eve

Assessment: There are 2 assignments:Assignment 1 - 'Theory' and Assignment 2 - 'Practical ''. Each involves the production 7 small tasks including an assessed micro-teaching session

Progression Routes: The qualification provides an entry point and introduction for those new to teaching. It provides progression to the Certificate or Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector
