Course programme

Is this course for me?
Since this award provides the licence to teach in the Lifelong
learning Sector, applicants must be prepared for a reasonably
intensive learning experience, and be committed to working both in
class and at home in order to meet the assessment requirements of
this course.
This course offers the chance to explore the challenges and
rewards of teaching and to get a foot on the professional
ladder. It teaches you to plan lessons, to support a range of
learner needs, to develop a range of teaching and learning
activities and methods, and to understand and deploy a range of
valid and reliable assessment methods used to measure learning. By
the end of the course, you will have planned and delivered a 30
minute "micro teach" encapsulating all that has been learnt during
the programme.
The PTLLS qualification is regarded as the basic license to
teach qualification in our sector. All teachers will be required to
have at least this qualification in order to be hired as a teacher
in our sector.
What will I study?
This is a one unit qualification, comprising of the following
sections:
  1. Understand own role, responsibilities and bounderies of role in
    relation to teaching
  2. Understand apporpriate teaching and learning approaches in the
    specialist area
  3. Demonstrate session planning skills.
  4. Understand how to deliver inclusive sessions which motivate
    learners.
  5. Understand the use of different assessment methods and the need
    for record keeping
What can I do next?
This can lead to employment in teaching or training in post-16
education. This programme meets the new national standards for
Teachers in the Lifelong Learning Sector and will act as an initial
'Licence to Practice'.
What are the entry requirements?
You will need to have subject or vocational qualifications to
Level 3 plus evidence of experience and relevant professional
qualifications. You should also possess effective communication
skills and have a good command of written English. You would
normally be expected to have an English Language qualification at
Level 2.
How will I be assessed?
Each section represents a learning outcome from the Preparing to
Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector unit. To achieve the
qualification, candidates must successfully complete both the
theory and practice assignments covering all five Sections.
