Course Level Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector PTLLS (City and Guilds 7303) Level 3

Description
This course leads to the initial qualification for teaching in the FE and Lifelong Learning Sector. It is suitable for those who would like to:
- be introduced to the skills and knowledge associated with teaching and training adult and post 16 learners
- gain experience of planning and delivering a microteach session in a supportive environment
- achieve the mandatory teaching qualification in this sector as prescribed by LLUK

Course Length
12 weeks x 3 hours

What will I study?
The programme concentrates on two main aspects of teaching:
- being introduced to the basic theoretical principles associated with identifying learners needs and styles; recognising a variety of teaching strategies; designing effective resources; planning sessions; creating a broad course outline; assessing learners; and motivating and engaging learners
- putting the theory into practice by planning and delivering a short microteach session to peers on the course


How will I learn?
The programme will be delivered using a variety of methods, however the emphasis will be on participative exercises and discussions where learners will be encouraged to:
- relate and reflect on their own experiences in the classroom as a student
- interpret course materials and instruction in a manner appropriate to teaching their own subject area
- begin the process of identifying their own strengths and styles of delivering information and managing a group of learners
- use the internet, and college intranet, to find information related to the theory of teaching


How will I be assessed?
The programme will be delivered using a variety of methods, however the emphasis will be on participative exercises and discussions where learners will be encouraged to:
