Course programme
Press forming is method of making hollow 3D forms from sheet metal.
The metal is pressed into a mould using the controlled power of a hydraulic press or fly press. In this two day course you will learn how to make a mould and use it to create multiple forms which can then be soldered or hinged together to form beads, boxes or small containers.
Press forming opens up a great range of design possibilities using shapes otherwise impossible or extremely difficult to achieve which can then be used to make items such as hollow shaped brooches, lockets, pendants, earrings, perfume bottles, hollow knife handles and spoons etc. There will be examples on display made by Catherine for you to examine and to help you to understand the possibilities of the process.
This is a fabulous addition to existing jewellery skills. We recommend that you have a basic level jewellery experience to fully enjoy this course ( basic sawing skills at least! ).
This is also a great course to compliment Catherine's etching course as your etched sheet works fantastically well when press formed!!
