It prepares you to enter a variety of areas such as: 'walk-in centres', general practice, nursing people in their own homes or specialist clinics (dermatology, sexual health, diabetes...)

The future of a successful health service requires an extensive provision in primary care and the community, and a higher numbers of nurses will be required to work in this area as autonomous and confident practitioners. If you are a nurse currently working in this area, our course will help you access a wide variety of specialist modules to update, upskill and embed your practice. If you are new to primary care and community nursing, our course will help you to become quickly established in the provision of care and services in this area.

Our course will support the development of your skills and knowledge regardless of which setting you work or plan to work in. There is a vast assortment of modules to assist you in specialising further within the primary and community care setting. These modules focus on topics such as: Diabetes, Children, Mental Health, Dementia, Clinical assessment, Non-Medical Prescribing, Wound Care and Long Term Illnesses to name but a few.

You will explore the theory and policy underpinning contemporary service delivery in order to clearly understand how they influence practice provision. Guidance and support will be given to help you gather information and evidence with which to strengthen your practice.The primary care and community settings will be brought to life with an excellent level of support delivered from the University which reaches out into your personal practice environment. Close contact and support from your personal tutor will help you manage your modules to gain the best possible learning experience throughout the course. Your personal tutor will be one of a number of highly experienced lecturers, selected specifically to match your learning needs.

As you progress through your course you will meet nurses from a variety of practice areas and occasionally you will also meet other health professionals. This will create plenty of opportunity for discussions which include different perspectives in medical and healthcare provision. You will be able to develop new skills in our ‘state of the art’ skills rooms and experience contemporary learning opportunities where practice and theory merge.
