Overview
The Hope Primary Language Learning programme is a six week course that has been designed specifically to support the development of professional practice for non-specialist primary teachers/educators in modern languages – with a focus on French or Spanish. It is intended to help participants to acquire the knowledge, skills and understanding essential to develop linguistic competence and cultural awareness.
The course aims to give primary practitioners increased confidence in their use of the French/Spanish language in the classroom to support language learning. It will give an appreciation of activities and resources that can be used to develop children’s emergent use of the foreign language so that they may also become confident, competent linguists.
The programme will provide a context for participants to practically engage with the French/Spanish language along with a consideration of the key principles for foreign language learning and how best to facilitate this in the classroom.
Although the emphasis will be on French or Spanish, the ideas and methodologies are transferable across any language.
