This NCFE Certificate in Business Administration Knowledge distance learning course is the ideal programme for individuals looking to increase their knowledge and understanding of a range of administration concepts and practices. This Certificate in Business and Administration Knowledge is aimed at providing learners with basic knowledge of the skills required when working in an office environment.
The objectives of this qualification are to help learners develop essential knowledge of how to carry out administrative tasks such as managing information and supporting events and to know how to apply their knowledge in a variety of industries and job roles.
This qualification is based on Business and Administration national occupational standards and is recognised as the technical certificate component of the Level 2 Apprenticeship in Business and Administration.

Due to the nature of the qualification, the learner will need to be working in an office environment in order to complete certain aspects of this course. There is no requirement that this is full time or paid employment.

In order to achieve the qualification, learners will need to complete the three mandatory units and then achieve a minimum of four credits from the list of optional units. Only one unit can be chosen out of unit 4 and unit 9. Learners cannot elect to achieve both of these units.

COURSE OUTLINE
How is the course structured?The NCFE Level 2 Business and Administration Knowledge course is divided into following units :
Unit 1 - Principles of personal responsibilities and working in a business environment - 4 credits
This unit introduces you to understanding employment rights, health, safety and security at work. You will also explore how to work with others and how to manage and improve your own work in a business environment. When you have completed this unit you should know and understand:
- The employment rights and responsibilities of the employee and employer.
- The purpose of health, safety and security procedures in a business environment.
- How to communicate effectively with others.
- How to work with and support colleagues.
- How to plan own work and be accountable to others.
- Improving your own performance in a business environment.
- The types of problems that may occur in a business environment and how to deal with them.
Unit 2: Principles of providing administrative services - 4 credits
This unit enables you to develop your understanding of the need to work effectively with others in a business environment. You will explore communication, working in and supervising a team and providing customer service. When you have completed this unit you should know and understand:
- Understand how to make and receive telephone calls.
- Understand how to handle mail.
- Understand how to keep waste to a minimum in a business environment.
- Know how to make arrangements for meetings. - Understand procedures for organising travel and accommodation requirements
- Understand diary management procedures
- Understand the purpose of delivering effective customer service and how to do so
- Understand the purpose of reception services and how to follow reception procedures.
Unit 3 - Principles of managing information and producing documents - 3 credits
This unit introduces you to the knowledge which you will require in order to manage information and produce documents. You will consider how to organise and research information and how to produce and store documents. When you have completed this unit you should know and understand:
- The purpose of information technology in a business environment.
- How to manage electronic and paper-based information.
- The purpose of producing documents that are fit-for-purpose.
- The procedures to be followed when producing documents.
Optional Units
Unit 4*: Principles of supporting change in a business environment - 1 credit
Learning Outcomes:
- Understand why change happens in a business environment
- Understand the purpose of supporting change in a business environment
- Understand how to respond to change in a business environment.
Unit 5: Principles of supporting business events - 1 credit
Learning Outcomes:
- Understand how to support the organisation of a business event
- Understand the purpose of displaying professional and helpful behaviour whilst supporting a business event and how to do so
- Understand how to deal with problems encountered when supporting a business event.
Unit 6: Principles of maintaining stationery stock - 1 credit
Learning Outcomes:
- Understand why stationery stock needs to be available
- Understand how to maintain stationery stock levels.
Unit 7: Principles of project management - 2 credits
Learning Outcomes:
- Know the difference between routine work and taking part in a project
- Understand how to prepare for and plan a project
- Understand how to monitor a project
- Understand the purpose of evaluating a project and ways of doing so
Unit 9*: Principles of contributing to innovation and change - 2 credits
Learning Outcomes:
- Understand the purpose of innovation in a business environment
- Understand how to contribute to innovation
- Understand the reasons for and implications of change in a business environment
- Understand the process of change in a business environment.

Course Assessments
The learner will complete a portfolio of evidence by successfully completing all of the activities at the end of each unit. This portfolio is assessed by your tutor who will mark and sign off each completed unit of study.
Upon successful completion of the 15 credits, students will receive a certificate of achievement from the awarding organisation, NCFE.
